get more online reviews
Did you know that 97% of people read reviews for local businesses, and 93% of consumers say online reviews impact their purchasing decisions? With numbers that high, getting online reviews should be at the top of your list for marketing your landscaping business. Here are our top 7 tips for getting more online reviews.
  1. Send an Email After Each Job

The best way to get more reviews? Just ask! Don’t be shy about asking your customers for reviews. After each job, send an email thanking them for their business and asking for a review. Send the email as soon after the job as possible, while their landscaping looks the best and their interaction with you and your staff is still top of mind. To make it simple for the client, include a link to the site you want them to leave a review on. (Just getting started with reviews? Google is a great place to start, as your Google reviews can affect your position in online searches.)
  1. Ask in Person

Asking your customer for a review in person is even more effective than sending an email. It adds a personal touch and is much harder to brush off than an email request. If you do this, make sure to hand them your business card with an easy-to-read URL for the review site on it or send them a text with the link.
  1. Be Specific

The quantity of positive reviews you get is certainly important, but the content of those reviews is just as vital. Reviews that include specifics about the client’s experience are much more useful to potential customers. Ask your clients to answer specific questions in their review like:
  • What did you enjoy most about our service?
  • What stands out as the biggest benefit of hiring us?
  • Why did you choose us?
  • Would you recommend us to friends and family?
  1. Make it Easy

Make leaving a review as easy as possible for your customers. As we mentioned above, include a link to the review site in your email requests so they don’t have to spend time figuring out where to leave their review. Include an easy-to-find review link on your website as well. You may also want to consider typing up a short set of review instructions that you can attach to invoices, tuck into thank-you cards, or hand to clients.
  1. Ask More than Once

Most people will need to be asked more than once to leave a review. Send a reminder email after 10 days or so if they haven’t responded to your initial request. Don’t hesitate to ask a client using multiple formats – in person, through an email, or on invoices, business cards, your website, or social media.
  1. Ask Suppliers & Vendors

Review requests are not just for customers! Anyone who has worked with you in any capacity can leave a review. Ask the suppliers and vendors that you have a good working relationship with to write you a review (and reciprocate by writing reviews for them!). This will strengthen your relationship with those companies as well as boost your reputation with potential vendors and suppliers.
  1. Monitor and Respond to Reviews

Respond to all reviews if you can, but be certain to respond to the negative ones. Show your gratitude for positive reviews, and respond quickly and professionally to every negative review. Responding to negative reviews gives you the opportunity to repair the relationship with that client as well as show potential customers the level of customer service you provide.

Bonus Tip: A Few “Don’ts”

When it comes to online reviews, there are a few big “don’ts” to avoid:
  • Don’t keep bugging clients who have already left reviews.
  • Don’t have employees write reviews.
  • Don’t ask upset clients for reviews (but do ask for their feedback and respond appropriately).
  • Don’t offer incentives for a review. This is against the policies of many review sites – you can send a thank-you gift after the fact, but you can’t promise a reward for leaving a review.
We hope these tips help you gain more great online reviews from your clients. Getting regular positive reviews will boost your online reputation and make you more visible and attractive to potential customers, leading to more business for your company!
